Posted October 10, 2012

WCMC-FM, better known to Triangle sports fans as 99.9 FM The Fan, is celebrating its fifth year by conducting the biggest ticket giveaway in Triangle radio history.

Listeners will have an opportunity to qualify on-air for a pair of season tickets to college football and men’s basketball games for the University of North Carolina, Duke University, North Carolina State University and North Carolina Central University along with the Carolina Hurricanes, Durham Bulls, Carolina Railhawks and Carolina Mudcats.

In addition, Kangaroo Express will provide a $500 gas card to help the winner get to all of the games. The winner will be announced Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. on the “Adam and Joe” show.

“The fans of our area have made 99.9 The Fan the sports station of record for The Triangle,” 99.9 The Fan Operations Manager and Program Director Jason Dixon said in a statement. “We thought there was no better way to thank our listeners than to turn one of them into The Triangle’s ultimate sports fan by allowing them to attend virtually every game played in our area for an entire year.”

Over the past five years 99.9 The Fan has consistently been rated among the top radio stations in its target male demographic by Arbitron, the industry’s most respected and accredited radio ratings system.

The station has broadcast more than 1000 play by play events spanning the sports landscape from high school sports to Super Bowls, Final Fours, Stanley Cup Finals, World Series, and NBA Finals.

Stars from the world of sports, entertainment, and politics, including President Barack Obama have appeared on 99.9 The Fan to give their take on the sports topic of the day.

Using HD Radio technology, the 99.9 frequency now hosts four sports radio stations. 99.9 The Fan is on 99.9 HD-1. A simulcast of WDNC-AM known as 620 The Buzz can be heard on 99.9 HD-2. 99.9 HD-3 The Ticket features Yahoo! Sports Radio, Appalachian State Athletics and Carolina Railhawks Soccer. A simulcast of WCLY-AM, the Spanish ESPN Deportes format is on 99.9 HD-4.
