ACC Tournament tickets to go on sale Monday

The Atlantic Coast Conference, with ticket sales lagging for the men's basketball tournament, announced Tuesday that tickets for the 2009 tournament will be available for sale on a tournament-book basis starting Monday, March 2.

The tournament is scheduled for March 12-15 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The tournament has not had a public sale since 1966, although tickets were available at the gate on the days of games in Tampa in 2007.

Many ACC schools, including N.C. State, have struggled to sell the allotment of 2,600 in the Georgia Dome. The usual allotment is around 1,500 per school.

"Due to the unique combination of playing this year’s tournament in a dome during very trying economic times, our league has the opportunity to offer a public sale of ACC Tournament tickets,"  ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a statement. "Playing in the Georgia Dome provides a great stage for our conference teams, and Atlanta has been a terrific partner. Having already sold more tickets to this year’s tournament than the capacity of any of our other venues, our schools felt it would be appropriate to offer the remaining tickets to college basketball fans in the Atlanta area.”

Tickets can be purchased, starting Monday, by contacting Ticketmaster by phone at 404-249-6400 or 1-800-326-4000 or by going to the Ticketmaster sports Web site.

All remaining tickets available for purchase are upper-deck seats and are priced at $363 for an 11-game tournament book.

Thursday's and Friday’s two sessions are scheduled to start at noon and 7 p.m., while Saturday’s semifinal games session has a 1:30 p.m. starting time. Sunday’s championship game will tip off at 1 p.m.

RE: ACC Tournament tickets to go on sale Monday

I agree. Charlotte was the best venue. I'll pass this year on the GA Dome...I don't like ATL...they have THE WORST TRAFFIC EVER!

Cesium Mojo...

I agree about Charlotte. Before Charlotte, I always thought G'boro was the best venue. But, Charlotte is now tops in my book. Fans can stay downtown and actually walk to the arena. I parked my car that Thursday AM and did not get back in it till Sunday PM. I personally like the smaller venue because all seats were good. Plus Charlotte did a great job with the free train passes and shuttles to nearby parking for people who drove to each session.

Don't listen to this troll anybody. This isn't true.

RE: ACC Tournament tickets to go on sale Monday

The ACC tournament isn't just about watching the games - it's about the "being there" at "the event" - or at least that's how it has been marketed since I can remember. The games become almost secondary to the event.

The important thing about the venue is that it attracts the largest number or fans - and whereas Atlanta is big and the Georgia Dome is big, Atlanta just isn't a sports city. Just ask all of the fans that don't show up to Braves and Hawks games.

Despite the fact that the ACC has expanded its market north and south over the last thirty years, NC is the heart and soul of the ACC, always has been, always will be. The best ACC tournament venues will always be Greensboro and Charlotte. As much as I hate to admit it, being a former Greensboro resident and not a big fan of the Queen City, Charlotte is probably the best venue, as there are actually things to do in Charlotte besides go to Stamey's and Four Seasons Mall.
