GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC Baseball Championship will be held at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. (2012), and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (2011, 2013), the league announced Monday

The 2011-13 championships were originally awarded to Myrtle Beach. The ACC said it had agreed to hold the tournament in South Carolina with the stipulation that discussions be held, and agreements made, with all local and state organizations that had voiced concerns over the confederate flag being flown on the state grounds of the South Carolina State Capitol.

Since 2000, the conference has supported the NAACP’s statements concerning the flag issue and followed the NCAA’s policy of not holding pre-determined championships in the state of South Carolina, the ACC said. In 2005, the conference presidents agreed that the ACC would be willing to consider awarding league championships to venues in the state of South Carolina on a case-by-case basis, provided that the host-site proposal included a plan to work with the NAACP at the local and state levels to ensure a proper environment.

“Our baseball committee and institutional administrators awarded the championships to Myrtle Beach with the understanding that the event had the blessings of all parties within the state of South Carolina. It has become clear this was not the case,” stated ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “It’s unfortunate that this miscommunication occurred and since the original announcement, we have had productive conversations with members of the NAACP. In the end, given the conference’s commitment to diversity, equality and human rights, our institutions have determined that this change should be made.”

With the recent success of the 2009 ACC Baseball Championship in Durham and the announcement of the partnership with Greensboro to host the 2010 ACC Baseball Championship, the league has reached agreements for Durham to host the event in 2011 and 2013 with Greensboro hosting in 2012.

"We appreciate both Durham and Greensboro’s commitment to hosting future ACC Baseball Championships,” said Swofford. “The Durham Bulls Athletic Park and NewBridge Bank Park are both first-class facilities found in the heart of the ACC footprint. We feel fortunate that over the next four years, our teams will be able to complete for an ACC Title in two of the top-rated minor league parks in the country.”

" For the rest, there are other social and political organizations that may be a better fit for them and they join those." Such as?

" Race card ....." So explain to me why it is automatically considered a hate crime if a white person attacks a black person but treated as just another crime when roles are reversed. I see plenty of reverse discrimination taking place these days, especially where white males are concerned.

Why would I want to join an organization that undermines me 24/7 for no other reason than me being a white male? That will never happen. You speak of " the spirit of cooperation ", yet you appear to stereotype all Southern whites who choose to honor their Southern heritage, whether it is in the form of flying the Confederate battle flag or honoring Confederate ancestors.

Speaking of the Confederate battle flag, can you provide evidence that the flag was created exclusively as a show of support for slavery? The flag gained prominence during the Civil War and had nothing to do with slavery. The war was fought due to perceived Northern oppression against the South and a distrust of Northern government. You alluded to the KKK and the Aryan Nation but neither of them use the Confederate flag as their official flag. Both groups embrace the American flag, just an fyi. I'll conclude by saying that I support free speech, states rights, etc., and the Confederate flag is nothing more than a symbol of pride for most white Southerners, my opinion. If you disagree, would it be fair for me to say all blacks that sport Malcolm X shirts are racists? I will never ask permission to honor my Southern ancestors. Regarding the NAACP and others, I wonder how much federal money they get to promote their agendas? And who pays for their grants, etc.? You mentioned tax dollars earlier.

What do they have in common today? Blacks do not have a monopoly on suffering. I think the Jews, Native Americans and many others can attest to that over the life of the human race.

What is illogical about pointing out the obvious? I suppose the New Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam are necessary in 2009 as well, which brings me back to demonizing. As for organizations that " never discriminated ", how many non-Blacks are members of said organizations? You must be joking when you say, " little power to enforce a racist agenda." Rev. Al Brawley, Jackson, and many others like them patented the race card. As for power, reference the hundreds of groups/organizations that are black in title & seem to promote black interests only, etc. Those are the facts! Lastly, I have done a thorough self-examination and concluded this.......No guilty conscience can be found, no reason for one.

Nobody claimed that blacks have a monopoly on suffering. As a matter of fact many of us don't suffer and we go about living our lives as productive citizens.

The New Black Panther party doesn't reflect the ideals of the original Black Panther party and for the most part is as much an outlier for blacks as the Ku Klux Klan and the Aryan Nation is for whites. The Nation of Islam isn't a good example to use because it is a sect of a larger religious group; kind of like COGIC is a sect of Protestantism.

The number of non-blacks in mainstream black organizations is irrelevant seeing as no one stops non-blacks from joining. As I stated previously in groups like the NAACP; other ethnic and racial minorities have been members for decades and more are joining. For the rest, there are other social and political organizations that may be a better fit for them and they join those.

'Race card' is a relatively new term in the American social conscience and is more often used to minimize or at worst demonize minorities; rather than advance the minority agenda. We wouldn't call that situation on ourselves because more often than not it's us being victimized/demonized/belittled. That doesn't mean that everything has a racial component, but sometimes race is a factor.

Finally, I invite you to join the NAACP, the National Urban League, the Black MBA Association, the 100 Black Men, or any of the five National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and do so in the spirit of cooperation and social advancement. I don't foresee them turning down your membership (well maybe the fraternities, but that's a whole different topic, because they have a different purpose).

issymayake,

What do the following have in common?

100 Black Men in America, AAPC, AASB, BCA, National Action Network, NAACP, NABHOOD, NABA, BIG, NUL, Rainbow Push Coalition, BISA, NSBE, National Black Caucus, National Black MBA Assoc., Black history month, National Conference of Black Mayors Inc., BET and literally dozens and dozens of others with similar names and agendas. And we're called racists! What a joke! Lastly, if Rev. Barber spent as much time addressing the real problems in black communities as he does maintaining his weight, that would be some serious progress.

What do they have in common? Most of them were founded before blacks were granted civil rights. The shame of it all is that the federal government had to force the country to grant black Americans their Constitution-granted rights.

It is completely illogical to even attempt to demonize organizations that never discriminated and were born out of necessity. If you feel like blacks are racist, even though we have little power to enforce a racist agenda, then apparently you have a problem with both introspection and empathy. Furthermore, your feelings about Rev. Barber have very little to do with what's going on in South Carolina. Their legislators created this mess, and would rather be stubborn and lose millions of dollars in convention money for the state than put that treasonous flag in a museum where it belongs. What you display in the privacy of your own home is your business. What's displayed on the capital grounds of a state government that I pay taxes to help maintain better not offend me.

I'm sure if a flag with a Swastika was being displayed in front of the governor's mansion in NC, there would be protests every day until it was pulled down. Well guess what, the swastika wasn't always affiliated with Nazi Germany and persecution of the Jews, but that's what it's associated with now. That's how blacks feel about the Rebel Yel.

Maybe blacks in NC and SC need to protest every day until that thing comes down.
