Amerson acclimating with Redskins

Posted May 6, 2013

— North Carolina State University's David Amerson is wearing number 39 for the Washington Redskins after sporting number 1 for the Wolfpack.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Amerson is being groomed to play the outside corner, and the coach was impressed with the good hands his second-round pick was showing in a recent three-day rookie camp.

The weekend workouts marked the start of Amerson's transition to becoming an NFL player.

"It's a dream come true to get out here and get active and get some of the nervous jitters away," Amerson said.

"I knew it was going to be an adjustment, learning a new scheme and getting acclimated to the defense. It's going to be what I expected."

Amerson added that he likes the way the Redskins use their corners with a lot of help over the top so he can be aggressive when it comes to jumping routes.

He didn't get blown out because he was slow. He got blown out because he tried to cheat on passes. All the QBs had to do was pump-fake and he would bite.

not so much a lack of speed...it was due to him looking in the backfield and biting on the first move. bad technique+glory seeking = toasty buns/draft stock plummet

"Lack of Speed?" He runs a 4.4 40 yd.... so he has plenty of speed.

What he needs is to play amoungst better skilled players within the defensive set. He needs to hone his skills, work on his angles and be coached up.

I completely agree. He may make the team but I will be stunned if he becomes a good player. His lack of speed will kill him.

He made it folks. Heckeva lot better than most when only a few can. His stock went down when he had the jump and great luck two years ago. No one can do this two straight years. He will be a solid player if he can think. He needs solid coaching. His luck ran out two years ago.

Still think he should move to safety.

hopefully he wont be as slow as he showed he can be. Maybe he did not get help but the Tenn. game showed a lot of his weaknesses. Fast recievers burnt him all game.
