Coach K returning to US men's team

Posted May 22, 2013

Multiple sources have confirmed to WRAL that Duke head coach  Mike Krzyzewski has agreed to return as the US men's Olympic basketball coach.

Krzyzewski, whose decision to return will be made official at at press conference Thursday, will attempt to lead the Americans to a third straight Olympic gold medal.

Krzyzewski announced he would be stepping away from the national team following the successful run at the 2012 London Olympics.

"It's a lot," Krzyzewski said when he returned to the Triangle in August. "I was so honored to do it and it turned out great. It's time to pass the baton without letting it drop."

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo was persistent in reclaiming Krzyzewski, promising to take him out for "pizza and wine" to try to convince him not to leave. Colangelo and Krzyzewski met extensively last week to talk about the possibility of K coaching the team again.

Krzyzewski, 66, took over as Team USA coach in 2005, winning gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, and the 2010 world basketball championship.

Great news .... he knows the international rules well and has a long track record in international play that dates back to the 80's Pan-Am games. I think he is better suited to coach the Olypmic team than any NBA coach.

If you don't like coach K getting the gig again then just tell ol' Roy to quit turning the job down. :)

I'm glad that the decision has been made wishing him and the team well.

Lame excuse for a coach? He looks pretty successful to me.

  • rushbot May 22, 2013

Excellent!!! That will give him a leg up in recruiting over the tar persons and the lupo persons.

Ratface simply just won't go away. I'll be glad when he finally retires and is gone. I am sick of his ugly self and I don't even like his looks...potty mouth lame excuse for a coach!

why is it going to be harder for Roy to use a paid player? Because the NCAA now has its eyes on him?
