Duke cracks Top 25; 'Bama keeps rolling

Posted November 17, 2013

With a win Saturday over Miami, the Duke Blue Devils pushed into The Associated Press college football poll at spot No. 25. It's the first time the Devils have ranked in football since 1994.

Baylor overtook Ohio State in The Associated Press college football poll and Alabama became just the seventh team to hold the No. 1 ranking for 13 straight polls in a season.

The third-ranked Bears slipped ahead of the fourth-ranked Buckeyes after Baylor beat Texas Tech 60-34 and Ohio State won 60-35 at Illinois on Saturday. Baylor has 1,351 points and Ohio State has 1,343.

Alabama remained No. 1, with 55 first-place votes from the media poll released Sunday. No. 2 Florida State has five first-place votes.

Oregon was fifth and Auburn was sixth.

Alabama has been No. 1 since the preseason. Only six preseason No. 1 teams have had longer uninterrupted stays than the Tide, including Southern California in 2004 and Florida State in 1999, the only wire-to-wire champions.

The other four preseason No. 1 teams that have spent longer at No. 1 than Alabama all either lost in a bowl game (Nebraska, 1983; Southern California, 2005; Ohio State 2006) or lost in a conference title game (Oklahoma, 2003).

Southern California (No. 23) and Mississippi (No. 24) are also newcomers to the poll this week.

LoL AP and BCs can keep disrespecting tOSU... Baylor ahead of them would be a joke.

"Here we go again the media loving Duke. It started with Duke basketball and now it is Duke football. The same goes for UNC. The media hate the Wolfpack. Duke at number 25? NC State should at least be #14."

LOL Duke is getting the love because they're actually winning games. You have to win to get coverage or suck so bad that the media just wants to bash you. State isn't too far off from that and I'm a Pack fan.

Congrats to Duke and Coach Cut...I do forsee another L for the bluedevils on the road at UNC - I cant believe it will be considered an upset

Congrats to Coach Cutcliffe and his team. However, I'm hoping our HEELS will knock Duke out of the top 25 assuming we get by ODU.

    GO HEELS!!

Deservedly so. Duke played a strong game against a good Miami team.

Good job Duke! Win your next two and then you get to play FSU!

Congratulations Coach Cut and Duke. Well deserved. Coach Cut should be National Coach of the Year.

ACC22 is just some clown trying to make NC State fans look bad. NOT ONE SINGLE NC State fan feels this way. We'll still hold our heads up, endure these last 2 games, and see what next year holds. Thanks to Duke for proving that it can be done the right way, unlike the "carolina way".

Please tell us you are joking. Why spend so much emotion on a team that is not relevant
