Tlusty has appendectomy, Canes recall Boychuk
Posted December 27, 2013
The Carolina Hurricanes placed forward Jiri Tlusty on injured reserve after he underwent an emergency appendectomy on Tuesday. In in stead, the team has recalled forward Zach Boychuk from Charlotte.
Tlusty, who has six goals and four assists on the year in 37 games, is expected to miss two to three weeks. His absence will create a shuffle in the lines as they take the ice Friday against Pittsburgh.
Boychuck will skate Friday on a line with Manny Malhotra and Radek Dvorak. Drayson Bowman will slide up to fill Tlusty's spot with Riley Nash and Patrick Dwyer.
This will be Boychuck's second stint with Carolina this season. He leads the Checkers in goals (14) and points (27) and is the American Hockey League leader in power-play goals (10). He earned an assist during his only other NHL game this season, a 5-3 Carolina victory against San Jose on Dec. 6.
Also on Friday, Justin Peters will make his third consecutive start in net. He will have a defensive pairing of Mike Kamoisarek and Tim Gleason in front of him as Brett Bellemore will be a scratch.
