A.J. Bogucki carried a no-hitter into the seventh in his first career start and No. 29 North Carolina topped North Carolina A&T 10-0 Tuesday evening at Boshamer Stadium. Bogucki, Trevor Kelley and Jack Geraghty combined on the one-hit shutout, while Michael Russell went 4 for 4 to lead the Tar Heel offense.

It was an unlikely start to a no-hit bid for Bogucki, who lowered his ERA from 4.91 to 1.69 in seven shutout innings. The Gilbertsville, Pa., freshman walked Aggie leadoff man Brandon Wilkerson on five pitches before stranding him at third with the first of his 10 strikeouts.

From there, however, he was in complete control of North Carolina A&T (11-22). Bogucki retired 11 straight before a two-out walk in the fourth, then set down seven in a row before a walk to lead off the seventh. After striking out Lester Salcedo for the first out of the inning, Bogucki's 0-1 fastball to Stefan Jordan was laced into right center for a clean single.

But the shutout remained intact, and Bogucki struck out Ryan Hill and Kyle Clary to strand a pair and escape the seventh without any damage.

Kelley and Geraghty each pitched 1-2-3 innings to complete the first combined one-hitter for Carolina (19-13) since Trent Thornton, Reilly Hovis and Luis Paula one-hit Gardner-Webb last March.

With Bogucki and co. cruising, Russell and the Tar Heel offense picked up where they left off in Boston. The junior shortstop singled on the second pitch he saw to lead off the first and finished with four hits, including a pair of doubles. Skye Bolt singled Russell home in the first and Tom Zengel's sac fly made it 2-0 after 1.

Landon Lassiter continued his recent surge with two hits of his own, and Korey Dunbar drove in a pair for UNC, which will host Coastal Carolina Wednesday at 6 in the second game of a five-game homestand.
