BSB: Fall World Series ends in 3-3 tie

NC State baseball’s fall world series concluded in a 3-3, eight-inning tie between the red and white teams, on Tuesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Trea Turner contributed a 2-for-3 effort for Red with two stolen bases, a run, and a walk. Jake Fincher led White with a 2-for-3 performance including a double, two stolen bases, an RBI, one run, and a walk.

The Wolfpack enjoyed strong performances all week from new faces. Freshman Markel Jones went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk on Tuesday, finishing the series 4-for-7 with two RBIs. Freshman Kyle Cavanaugh stayed hot with a 2-for-3 effort, wrapping up a 5-for-9 line with an RBI for the series.

Andrew Woeck and D.J. Thomas turned in solid pitching performances in Tuesday’s finale. Woeck started and allowed one earned over four innings on three hits with four strikeouts. Thomas chipped in five strikeouts over three scoreless innings in relief.

Chris Williams relieved Woeck in the fifth and held Red to two unearned runs on four hits over three innings, striking out four. Will Gilbert made his second appearance of the week, holding the opposition to one run in 3 1/3 combined innings in with six strikeouts and three walks.
