Buies Creek, N.C. — Campbell senior Michael Felton has been named First Team Preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the organization announced this week.
The second baseman from Tempe, Ariz. hit .424 in 2012 with a Campbell and Big South record 103 hits, 52 runs scored, 45 RBI, 12 doubles, three triples, a home run and 11 stolen bases.
Felton was named Second Team All-American by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and the NCBWA last June. Felton also picked up First Team All-Atlantic Region honors from the ABCA.
Among Big South players, he ranked second in on-base percentage (.474) and total bases (124) in the league and tied for fourth in runs scored (52), helping the Camels to a 23-3 start, 41 total wins and 18-game winning streak, all marking CU program bests.
The Big South First Team All-Conference honoree finished the season as Campbell's all-time single season leader in hits (103), singles (87) and at-bats (243) after transferring from Gateway Community College.
He was named the league's Player of the Week on May 14 after pounding out 15 hits in five games. Felton had 35 multiple hit games in the regular season, including two four-hit games to lead the Camels to a series sweep over Radford.
Felton was also named to the College Sports Madness First Team All-Big South team, and added North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State accolades.
The Camels open the 2013 season on Friday, Feb. 15, hosting Eastern Michigan at the new Jim Perry Stadium.
