— No. 1 North Carolina (4-0) scored eight runs through the first four innings en route to a series-opening 11-2 win over Stony Brook (0-4) Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

Junior Kent Emanuel improved to 2-0 on the year as he allowed two runs, one earned, over seven innings of work. Emanuel racked up eight strikeouts on the afternoon in his second start of the year.

Carolina had four different hitters (Michael Russell, Colin Moran, Parks Jordan and Brian Holberton) register a pair of hits in the win, while Chaz Frank and Matt Roberts each drove in a pair of runs for UNC.
The Tar Heels struck for a run in the first, taking advantage of a Stony Brook error before adding three more runs in the second when the first three batters singled and came around to score.

The Carolina offense tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning with Matt Roberts delivering the big hit, a two-run triple to dead center field.

Chaz Frank picked up his second fly of the afternoon to plate Roberts before Michael Russell tallied the second triple of the inning. Colin Moran pulled a single through the right side to score Russell and make it an 8-0 contest.

Emanuel was dealing from the get go once again on Saturday as he retired the Seawolves in order through the first three innings before leadoff man Cole Peragine broke up the no-hitter to open the fourth.

The Woodstock, Ga., native would get out of trouble with a pair of strikeouts to close out the inning but Stony Brook would break through on the scoreboard in the fifth with an unearned run.

The run snapped a 13-inning scoreless streak for Emanuel to open the season and an 18-inning streak dating back to 2012.

Stony Brook would add another single run in the top of the sixth but Carolina would tally the final three runs to provide the final 11-2 margin.

Freshman right-hander Trent Thornton threw a spotless eighth for Carolina before sophomore right-hander Trevor Kelley made his season debut with a scoreless final frame.

Carolina improves to 4-0 on the year and will wrap up the series against Stony Brook with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.

Sophomore Benton Moss will get the call in game one before senior Chris Munnelly takes the mound for game two
