BSB: No. 8 Pack drops slugfest at Elon

Elon, N.C. — Eighth-ranked NC State fell 24-12 in the rain and cold on Tuesday night at Elon, despite two homers from sophomore Trea Turner.
The Wolfpack (10-2) dropped its first contest since opening day, snapping a 10-game winning streak in the process. Turner finished with a 4-for-5 night including two home runs, a triple, five RBIs, and three runs. The sophomore scored in the first inning to improve to 20-for-22 on scoring when reaching with less than two outs, but that number fell to 20-for-24 by the end of the game.
Elon (6-5) took a 3-1 lead at the end of one inning, and never looked back thanks to five runs in the second and nine more in the third. State dug itself an 18-3 hole by the end of the fourth, but chopped that lead down to 20-12 by the middle of the sixth. Elon added one in the bottom sixth and three in the eighth to pull away.
Tarran Senay provided a 2-for-3 effort with two runs, two RBIs, a triple, and a double after coming off of the bench in the fourth. Brett Austin and Jake Armstrong added two RBIs each. Austin had a double and Armstrong knocked the second triple of his career in the losing effort.
The Pack blew through eight pitchers on the evening, but starter Anthony Tzamtzis (0-1) took the loss in an inning of work. Of the other seven Wolfpack pitchers that appeared, none lasted more than 1 2/3 innings. Elon reliever John Antonelli (1-0) scored the win by holding the Wolfpack to one hit in the eighth.
