— Eighth-ranked NC State fell 24-12 in the rain and cold on Tuesday night at Elon, despite two homers from sophomore Trea Turner.

The Wolfpack (10-2) dropped its first contest since opening day, snapping a 10-game winning streak in the process. Turner finished with a 4-for-5 night including two home runs, a triple, five RBIs, and three runs. The sophomore scored in the first inning to improve to 20-for-22 on scoring when reaching with less than two outs, but that number fell to 20-for-24 by the end of the game.

Elon (6-5) took a 3-1 lead at the end of one inning, and never looked back thanks to five runs in the second and nine more in the third. State dug itself an 18-3 hole by the end of the fourth, but chopped that lead down to 20-12 by the middle of the sixth. Elon added one in the bottom sixth and three in the eighth to pull away.

Tarran Senay provided a 2-for-3 effort with two runs, two RBIs, a triple, and a double after coming off of the bench in the fourth. Brett Austin and Jake Armstrong added two RBIs each. Austin had a double and Armstrong knocked the second triple of his career in the losing effort.

The Pack blew through eight pitchers on the evening, but starter Anthony Tzamtzis (0-1) took the loss in an inning of work. Of the other seven Wolfpack pitchers that appeared, none lasted more than 1 2/3 innings. Elon reliever John Antonelli (1-0) scored the win by holding the Wolfpack to one hit in the eighth.

NC State returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Campbell at noon. Fans can follow along on Twitter via @NCStateBaseball, with live stats on GoPack.com, or over the airwaves on 88.1 WKNC. Streaming video of Wednesdayโ€™s game will be provided by GoPack All-Access.

Name calling....a typical response. And I never understood why State was a preseason No. 1 in the ACC anyway. Not with the returning class and top 5 recruiting class at UNC. AND UNC's NO. 1 preseason pick for the entire NCAA field - it just didn't make sense.

    GO HEELS!!

When a team plays 50 some games a season rarely do they win them all - like anything in life, you have good days and bad days....today State got rid of a 'bad game'. Thank heaven it wasn't an ACC game.

I listened to parts of the game for a while. Wasn't in attendance but I think what contributed to the bad outing was State could not adjust to the playing surface. At home Stae plays on a dirt and grass field; Elon's field was a turf surface which is a much faster surface to play on even when dry. Since today's game was played in rain and damp conditions, that makes the turf playing surface that much faster to play on...and State must have had a hard time making that adjustment.

Perhaps they were looking ahead to this weekend's 3 game series at home with Clemson - and good weather is predicted for those games...

In the long run State will do just fine.....

So this past football season was supposed to be a "special" season. This years bball team was pre-season #1 in the ACC, and look at how that has turned out.

And now giving up 24 runs to Elon ?!!!! Wetting the bed must be a major over at state.
