Brett Austin, Sam Morgan, and Chance Shepard drove in two runs each as the Red team evened the Fall Preview series with a 7-1 victory over White, Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Morgan led off and played shortstop for Red, submitting a 2-for-3 performance with two runs and two RBIs. Austin plated a pair with a double, his lone hit in a 1-for-3 game. Shepard had a two-RBI double as well, and scored once in his 2-for-4 night.

Tarran Senay supplied White’s only RBI on the evening, a sac fly in the first. Trea Turner scored the only run and stole a base in a 1-for-4 outing. Addison Braswell represented the only player on the White team with more than one hit, going 2-for-3. Grant Clyde, Jake Fincher, and Logan Ratledge each had one hit and one stolen base.

Brad Stone secured the win for Red after allowing one earned on two hits over the first three innings, striking out three. Travis Orwig and Gianni Zayas combined to shut out White over the final four innings, fanning a combined seven batters. Logan Jernigan started for White and looked sharp, striking out four over three innings while surrendering one earned on one hit.

The squads traded runs in the opening frame, and the score remained knotted at 1-1 until the bottom fourth when Red broke through with three runs to take control of the contest.

Shepard started the decisive inning with a one-out single on a sharp liner back to the mound that went caroming to the right side of the infield. After a wild pitch moved him to second, Morgan brought him home on a single up the middle. Matt Bergquist legged out an infield single to put two on, setting up Austin to clear the bases with a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line.

Red added another in the fifth when Jake Armstrong singled to center, moved to third on Will Nance’s single to right center, and scored on Morgan’s second RBI single of the night. In the sixth, Shepard pushed Adametz and Armstrong across on a two-out double to right center.

The deciding game of NC State’s Fall Preview takes place Sunday at 7 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park. Admission is free to the public, and live Twitter updates will be available from @NCStateBaseball.
