Durham, N.C. — The Durham Bulls fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 6-2 Friday night at the DBAP in a battle of the International League's two top teams, evening the four-game set at one game apiece.
One night after both teams struggled to put up much offense, the Bulls and RailRiders combined for eight runs on 19 hits and three homers. Scranton/WB out-hit Durham 13-6, with the deciding factor being a pair of two-run homers for the visiting team.
After a pair of scoreless frames to open the game the visitors struck for a pair of runs in the third inning, when Miguel Andujar singled home Jonathan Diaz and Billy McKinney's ground-rule double scored Mason Williams to put Scranton/WB up 2-0.
Two innings later the RailRiders extended their lead to 4-0 on a two-run homer by Tyler Austin. The Bulls countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, when Taylor Featherston blasted a solo homer and Willy Adames laced a double that scored Kean Wong to cut the deficit to 4-2.
That was as close as Durham would get though, as the RailRiders plated two more runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer off McKinney's bat for the final 6-2 score.
Chance Adams (9-3) picked up the victory, allowing two runs (one earned) over six innings. Southpaw Ryan Yarbrough (12-6) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on nine hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts across five frames.
The third game of the four-game set is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Saturday at the DBAP. LHP Michael Roth (2-4, 4.99) takes the hill for the Bulls opposite RHP Brady Lail (5-4, 5.23) for the RailRiders.
