Bulls head to All-Star break after 5-1 loss to Toledo
Posted July 9
The Durham Bulls failed to complete the series sweep over the Toledo Mud Hens Sunday evening, as the Bulls dropped the finale of their three-game set with the Hens 5-1 Sunday night at the DBAP.
The Mud Hens took an early lead on the Bulls, scoring the game’s first run in the second inning on an RBI single by Tyler Collins. An inning later the visitors took advantage of poor Durham defense, as the combination of three errors and two doubles led to a pair of runs and a 3-0 Toledo lead.
In the fourth frame the visitors continued to pour it on, as JaCoby Jones lined a two-run, two-out double that put the Mud Hens in front by a 5-0 count.
The Bulls finally got on the board in the fifth frame, as Ryan Brett singled and Johnny Field followed with a walk. Two batters later Willy Adames knocked an RBI single to centerfield, scoring Brett and making it a 5-1 contest. That was as close as the Bulls would come however, ending their six-game homestand with a 4-2 record.
Right-hander Buck Farmer (3-3) earned the win for the Mud Hens, tossing five innings and allowing one run on five hits. Southpaw Michael Roth (0-1) suffered the loss in his Durham Bulls debut, surrendering five runs (four earned) on six hits across four innings.
Brett and Casey Gillaspie each tallied a two-hit evening for the Bulls to lead the team offensively. Adames finished 1-4, and has now hit safely in seven of his last eight games.
The Bulls are off for three days for the Triple-A All-Star break. Four Bulls – Willy Adames, Andrew Kittredge, Patrick Leonard, and Mike Marjama – will represent the Bulls in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 12 in Tacoma, Wash. Durham resumes its schedule on Thursday, when they open a four-game set on the road against the Norfolk Tides at 7:05 p.m.
