Norfolk, Va. — Vince Belnome doubled in two runs in the first of the nightcap to lead the Durham Bulls to a doubleheader sweep over Norfolk on Friday night at Harbor Park.
Belnome's two-out drive to left rattled in and out of Quintin Berry's leaping try to score Nick Franklin and Cole Figueroa, leading the Bulls (74-67) to a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Merrill Kelly (W, 9-4) worked six strong innings en route to the game two victory, allowing an unearned run and fanning five. Josh Lueke (S, 12) pitched the seventh to earn his 12th save.
In the opener, Mike Fontenot hit a solo homer leading off the 11th inning to lift the Bulls to a 1-0 victory. Fontenot has hit all three of his 2014 home runs at Harbor Park. Meanwhile, Enny Romero, Brandon Gomes, Cory Burns (W, 2-2) and Adam Liberatore (S, 4) combined to retire 30 of the final 31 hitters of the game.
Romero permitted just one hit over his seven innings, fanning four and walking three.
The Bulls play their final regular season road game on Saturday night at 7:05 PM with Matt Andriese (11-7, 3.68) starting against Chris Jones (7-8, 3.73).
