Durham split a day-night doubleheader against the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, losing the first game 7-0 before returning to take the second game, 3-2 on Saturday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Darnell McDonald started and ended the game in style. He lead off the game with a home run, his 12th of the season. Then with the Bulls ahead 3-2 in the top of the ninth inning, McDonald made a sliding catch with the tying run on second base to end the game. McDonald finished the night 2-4.

J.P. Howell (4-2) picked up the win for the Bulls, going six and one-third innings while allowing one run off six hits and a walk, while striking out eight. Marty McLeary (2-4) took the loss for the Indians, going five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) off nine hits, while striking out six. Edwin Jackson picked up his second save of the season, and the second in as many nights, getting the final out after allowing one walk. The two teams combined for 25 strikeouts, and each squad stranded seven baserunners.

In the 1:00 game, a fielding error by Luis Rivas led to four unearned runs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless game. With two outs in the top of the inning, a ground ball by Carlos Maldonado was mishandled, allowing Rajai Davis to score. Mike Edwards followed with a three run blast to make the game 4-0. The Indians added three more runs over the next two innings, and the Bulls were unable to answer.

Ron Chiavacci (3-3) picked up the win for his complete game shutout, allowing just five singles and a walk to the Bulls lineup, while striking out six. Chiavacci pitched the full nine innings in just 101 pitches, facing just 31 batters. Jim Magrane (1-2) took the loss for the Bulls, going seven and one-third innings while allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks, while striking out three.

Durham will continue their homestand tomorrow evening against the Louisville Bats, as RHP Brian Stokes (7-7) faces LHP Chris Michalak (9-5) at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at the Durham Bulls Box office, by phone at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com.
