Charlotte held on to an early lead and Terry Doyle dealt for eight superb innings to give the Knights a 5-2 win and a series split with the Bulls on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the DBAP. Durham could only muster five hits off Doyle, who improved to 3-3, as Charlotte took the final game of the series.

Entering the game with a 1-1 record and a 6.52 ERA in two starts against the Bulls this season, Doyle was dominant against Durham Tuesday afternoon. He allowed only four hits and two earned runs, walking just one and striking out five. He threw a season high 8.0 innings on 110 pitches.

The Knights scored early in support of their starter, notching two in the first to put the Bulls in a hole right off the bat. Catcher Josh Phegley singled home Dallas McPherson twice in the game to lead the Charlotte offense. Jim Paduch (2-2, 3.00) suffered his second loss of the season, lasting just four innings and allowing four runs, though only two runs were charged to him. In his first appearance since landing on the DL on April 10th, Bryan Augenstein relieved Paduch and tossed two scoreless frames.

Once again, Leslie Anderson paced the Bulls offense, going 2-4 with a solo homer in the 4th. Anderson now leads the Bulls in batting and home runs.

Brian Bruney entered the game for Charlotte in the top of the ninth to lock down the Bulls. After allowing a leadoff single to Anderson, he retired the next three Bulls on his way to his seventh save of the season. Durham’s Hideki Matsui (.133) was 0-4 in the game, again serving as the Bulls designated hitter.

After a league wide day off tomorrow, the Bulls resume action on Thursday to host the Norfolk Tides in a 7:05pm game. Durham will send RHP Chris Archer (3-4, 5.01) to the hill to take on RHP Miguel Gonzalez (1-1, 1.80).
