Eight Triple-A baseball teams began the playoffs Wednesday night with hopes of reaching the Gildan Triple-A Championship Game, which will be hosted by the Durham Bulls.
Two rounds of five-game series will determine who plays in the championship game on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The championship will be a one-game, winner-take-all contest between representatives from the International League and the Pacific Coast League.
In the International League, the Charlotte Knights and Pawtucket Red Sox both picked up a game-one victory. The Knights handled the Indianapolis Indians easily, winning 8-1 behind 14 hits. The Red Sox used a three-RBI game by Andy LaRoche to top the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 7-4.
In the Pacific Coast League, the Omaha Storm Chasers capitalized on three errors by the Albuquerque Isotopes to take the first game 8-4. The Reno Aces and the Sacramento RiverCats are the other teams competing in the Pacific Coast League semifinals. Their game went late.
