Cam Newton to undergo ankle procedure

Charlotte, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will undergo an ankle procedure Wednesday, the team confirmed. Newton suffered the injury during a game against the San Francisco 49ers last year and "will require a recovery of approximately four months."
“The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it,” said Panthers head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion.
The surgery will be done by Panthers team physician Robert Anderson.
Newton has played three seasons with the Panthers and has not missed a game since being drafted in the first round out of Auburn. 2013 was his worst statistical season in terms of passing yards, rushing yards and total TDs.
