Campbell VB adds Roth as assistant coach

Posted August 13, 2013

— Campbell head volleyball coach Greg Goral announced on Tuesday the addition of assistant coach Alicia Roth to his staff. She comes to the Camels following a four-year playing career as a defensive specialist at Samford University and has been an integral part of preseason practice so far.

"Alicia has the experience that I am looking for to help teach our defense and liberos different techniques and moves," said head coach Greg Goral. "She has already done a tremendous amount of coaching and has assisted her father in creating the Oakland Elite Volleyball Club. That experience she has is going to help in the gym. We are going to teach her all the day-to-day activities in the office like planning travel arrangement and recruiting."

Roth is additionally working towards a masters in exercise science at Campbell. One of the main responsibilities for her is to further develop the team's presence on social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram).

"I am excited to join the Campbell Volleyball family," said coach Roth. "I want to help these student-athletes by drawing upon my experiences as a coach and player, while learning as much as possible from coach Goral and coach [Ashley] Weers. My focus is also on providing behind the scence access and telling the story of our program through the use of social media. This will be an exciting year of change and I am happy to be a part of the Fighting Camels."

She brings three years of coaching experience during the summer at the club level with Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy and Oakland Elite Volleyball Club. Roth along with her father, Eric, helped found Oakland Elite Volleyball Club in 2008.

The Lake Orion, Mich., native completed a four-year playing career in 2012 at Samford. Roth played for head coach Derek Schroeder and totaled 235 digs and 21 service aces as a defensive specialist with the Bulldogs. She achieved a career-best with 11 digs on four occasions against Appalachian St. (10/9/10, 11/11/12), Georgia Southern (10/22/11) and Rutgers (08/24/12).

Roth graduated from Samford in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in sports administration.

The Camels complete the preseason on Aug. 24 with a four-set alumni match slated for 11 a.m. All fans of the program are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event inside Gore Arena/John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.
