— The Carolina Hurricanes continued to stabilize their roster over an 18-hour span Thursday night and Friday morning as they agreed to 1-year deals with Jared Staal, Michal Jordan and Ben Holmstrom.

Staal, the younger brother of Canes Eric and Jordan, will earn $550,000 on the NHL level, or $65,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, during the 2014-15 season. He played in 50 games with the Charlotte Checkers in 2013-14, notching two goals and five assists. The youngest Staal, a winger, has played in two career NHL games with Carolina.

Ben Holmstrom, a Colorado Springs native who played collegiately at University of Massachusetts-Lowell, has played in seven NHL games after making his debut with the Flyers in 2011. The 27-year-old center will make $600,000 in the NHL or $200,000 in the AHL next year.

“Ben has served as Adirondack’s (Phantoms, AHL) team captain and brings more veteran leadership to our system,” said Francis.

He has served as Adirondack’s team captain for the past three seasons, and ranks third in Adirondack Phantoms history in games played (256), second in goals (49) and fourth in assists (73) and points (122).

A 2008 draft choice by the Canes, Jordan will stay with the team for another year as his new agreement will earn him $550,000 on the NHL level, or $200,000 on the AHL level, with a guarantee of $225,000.

The 23-year-old defenseman led Charlotte blue-liners last year with 21 assists while skating in 70 of 76 games. He made his NHL debut during the 2012-13 season, playing in five games with the Hurricanes.
