Canes' Pitkanen to miss entire season with heel injury

Posted September 11, 2013

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen will miss the entire 2013-14 season with a broken bone in his left heel, the team said Wednesday.

Pitkanen suffered the injury in an April 2 game against the Washington Capitals when he went hard into the boards.

Pitkanen, 29, played in just 22 games last season, his fifth in Carolina and ninth in the NHL. He sat out about a month with a lower body injury before breaking his heel.

who gives a darn (the WRAL Gestapo filter busted me), it is college football season, not py 'Canes seaso...Then again, they have a built in excuse for another crummy season...That's right, all of you losers who should be investing your money in a 401k instead of wasting it on season tickets for these losers.

Badedan - can Karmanos defer the salary? If not, that is a real cost he must pay to keep a team on the ice.

I feel bad for Karmanos. The guy has spent a ton of money on this team and it simply underperforms

And we can defer his salary and not have it against the cap. That just freed up 4.5 million of cap space, and now we can get someone who can play defense. Hot dog.

Oh, geeze - HATE to hear this. I remember when Pitkanen suffered that injury, and I'm really surprised it will keep him out this entire season. Hate it for Joni, and the Canes.
