Canes recall G Khudobin from Charlotte

Posted December 31, 2013

Anton Khudobin (31) makes a save during the Flyers vs. Hurricanes game on October 6, 2013 in Raleigh, NC.

— Ahead of Tuesday night's game against Montreal, the Carolina Hurricanes recalled goaltender Anton Khudobin from Charlotte.

Khudobin, 27, played two games during his conditioning stint with the Checkers, going 1-1 with a 3.03 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. He was named first star of Charlotte’s game on Monday night, stopping 41 shots in the Checkers’ 3-2 win at Rockford.

Despite the recall, Cam Ward is expected to make his second consecutive start in net for the Canes Tuesday. Ward is 14-8-3 all-time against Montreal.

Khudobin played three games this season for the Hurricanes, going 2-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .929 save percentage before suffering an ankle injury on Oct. 13 against Phoenix.

Born in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, Khubobin has a career NHL record of 16-5-0 with a 2.03 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in 24 games with Minnesota, Boston and Carolina.

The Hurricanes, looking to end a five-game winless streak, host the Canadiens Tuesday at PNC Arena at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 99.9 The Fan ESPN Radio with Mike Maniscalco hosting the Stormfront and aftermath before and following the contest.

Why bother to recall Khudobin if Ward is starting. Are they trying to trade someone...

Better plan on scoring at least 4 goals if we want to have a chance to win. A win would be a good thing right now....

Looks like Peters will be leaving town soon, should be Wardo though.

THey probably put someone on IR and that gives them room to bring him back up until they figure out what they are going to do as far as a trade, when they can make a trade again. I havre a feeling it is going to be a package deal of Peter and probably a d-man.

I understand JR doesn't want to keep three goalies on his payroll, but both Peters and Khudobin have proven themselves valuable when they were called into action. I hate to say it, but I think Ward should be the one traded - something I haven't believed until this year. I don't see JR doing that, unfortunately.

    edits - you're probably right.

I'm sure JR could trade Peters and Skinner so we can get a good player for the Checkers. Either that or maybe if we are really lucky, a third round draft pick.

With Ward in goal, 4 goals gets us to overtime.

I would rather see Khudobin or Peters. Spare us Ward, please. He needs some one on one time in Charlotte for awhile.

Time to trade Ward....He needs a fresh start, and SO DO WE!!
