Keeping young talent has been a priority for the Hurricanes thus far into free agency, and the team continued that trend on Thursday, resigning defenseman Michal Jordan and right wing Jared Staal.

Jordan signed a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Jordan $550,000 on the NHL level, or $200,000 on the AHL level, with a guarantee of $225,000.

The defenseman completed his fourth professional season in 2013-14, leading all Charlotte Checkers defenseman with 21 assists and compiled 25 points.

The Hurricanes originally drafted the Zlin, Czech Republic, native in the fourth round, 105th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, and has since played five games with the Hurricanes.

Carolina also resigned the youngest Staal to a one-year, two-way contract. Staal's deal will pay him $550,000 on the NHL level or $65,000 on the AHL level.

Staal was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the second round, 49th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft. The Hurricanes acquired Staal from the Coyotes on May 13, 2010 in exchange for a 2010 fifth-round pick.

He has played two career NHL games with the Hurricanes.
