— The Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday sent first-round draft pick Elias Lindholm to Charlotte of the AHL and recalled Chris Terry.

The 18-yer-old Lindholm, who was selected No. 5 overall in the NHL Draft in June, has toataled just two points, (1g, 1a) in 10 games with Carolina and is skating at a minus-4. A center from Sweeden, he has averaged just 11:39 of ice time in those 10 games and put just seven shots on goal.

Lindholm signed a three-year entry-level contract in July that pays him $832,500 annually on the NHL level and $70,000 on the AHL level.

Terry, a 24-year-old winger from Brampton, Ontario, leads the Charlotte Checkers in goals with six and points with 10 in 10 games played. Three of his goals have come on the power play.

Terry has played for Charlotte since the 2010-11 season and was an AHL All-Star in 2012. He has scored 98 goals and collected 240 points in 315 career AHL goals between Charlotte and Albany. He made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes in 2012-13, scoring one goal in three games.

Terry is in the final year of a two-year deal with the Hurricanes that calls for him to make $550,000 at the NHL level.

Refreshing to see an athlete work so hard and be so gracious to fans. Lindholm seemed to find success early in the season, but has faded a bit; I hope his time with the Checkers sparks his scoring and he finds his way back to the Canes. Also hope Chris Terry does well with the Canes - he sounds like a great guy.

I had the chance to meet Chris Terry, his father, and two of his personal friends after a Checkers game in Norfolk last season. His father and his friends had traveled several hours from Ontario to watch him in Norfolk and were then going to Charlotte for a two game home stand. Although the Admirals defeated the Checkers that night, Chris came out of the locker room and greeted our party of four with a smile and thanked us for driving the three hours from Greenville to watch them play. He graciously autographed our jerseys, hats, and ticket stubs, and vowed he was going to do whatever he could to succeed. Not long after he was called up to the Canes and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game against the NJ Devils. He may never become an NHL star but in our eyes he's already won a few fans by his demeanor and character. Here's hoping he can light the lamp a few times and help wake up the Canes' offense.
