The Carolina Hurricanes signed defenseman Brett Bellemore to a one-year two-way contract Friday. The deal will pay Bellemore $600,000 on the NHL level, or $175,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level, in 2014-15.

Bellemore played in 64 games at the NHL level last season notching two goals and six assists for eight points.

In 2012-13 the 6' 4" defenseman appeared in his first NHL season with the Hurricanes, registering two assists and seven penalty minutes in eight games played. He spent most of his time at the AHL level with the Checkers playing in 68 games for Charlotte, setting AHL career highs in assists (11), points (13), penalty minutes (87) and plus/minus (+11).

Bellemore was selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
