Canes sign top pick Lindholm to 3-year deal

Carolina Hurricanes top draft pick Elias Lindholm signed a three-year, entry-level contract Monday that will pay him $832,500 annually at the NHL level.

The Boden, Sweden, native also received a $277,500 signing bonus.

Lindholm, 18, appeared in 48 games during the 2012-13 season for Brynas of the Swedish Elite League, scoring 11 goals and earning 19 assists to rank third on the team in scoring despite being the youngest player on its roster. He was a finalist for Swedish Elite League rookie of the year after leading all junior-aged players in scoring and represented Sweden at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship in January where he won a silver medal.

Lindholm’s contract will pay out $70,000 per year at the AHL level.

    This is a great contract considering some others drafted around him were getting up to a million a year more. Can't wait to see him on the ice.
