Carolina Hurricanes fans swarmed the box office at PNC Arena on Wednesday, snapping up tickets to the team's abbreviated 2013 season.

After the NHL resolved its four-month lockout last week, hockey-starved fans couldn't wait for a chance to see the Canes back in action.

"Woo-hoo! Club level for the first game of the season, opening night," Christy Bullins said. "I've been waiting. The last time I went to a game is when I got proposed to."

"I love the Hurricanes," David Seipp said. "I'm glad they're back. Can't wait to go to opening night. I'll be cheering loud, wearing my red."

To boost ticket sales, the team plans various promotions and discounts throughout the spring.

As of Wednesday evening, single seats were still available throughout the arena for the home opener next Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

JGunn - support the players? Really? You support icebrains that whined about making $ millions? The icebrains don't realize that a small market team like Carolina cannot support the mega-salaries these mega-dense players want.

Karmanos and other owners did what they had to do to keep hockey in small markets. Even with these changes, the jury is still out on the long-term viability of Carolina, Tampa Bay, Florida, Phoenix, and Nashville. If these teams fold, there will be less spots on NHL teams for icebrains to make their $ millions.
