Carolina Hurricanes forward Kevin Westgarth has been suspended without pay for two games for boarding Ottawa Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki during Sunday’s game at PNC Arena, the NHL announced Tuesday.
The incident occurred at 7:55 of the first period of Carolina’s 4-1 victory against the Senators. Borowiecki was injured on the play and did not return to the game. Westgarth was penalized two minutes for boarding.
Westgarth has played in eight games this season for Carolina recording zero points and four penalty minutes while skating at a minus-2.
Westgarth, a five-year veteran, was acquired by the Hurricanes last season from Los Angeles and has played a total of 39 games in a Carolina uniform. He has totaled 202 penalty minutes and nine points in 129 career games.
Carolina will play at New Jersey Wednesday then host the Devils at PNC Arena Friday. Westgarth will be eligible to return in Sunday's game against Vancouver.
