The National Football League announced the 2017 regular season – and finalized preseason slate – for all 32 teams Thursday night.

Coming off a disappointing 6-10 season to follow their Super Bowl 50 run, the Carolina Panthers will return to the site of the 2016 championship game in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.

Carolina will open its season on the road for the sixth time in the last seven campaigns at the helm of head coach Ron Rivera.

In addition to the 49ers, Carolina will also take on the Philadelphia Eagles and opponents from both the NFC North and AFC East, along with its NFC South rivals.

Carolina will welcome former defensive coordinator Sean McDermott – named head coach of the Buffalo Bills this offseason – to Charlotte in Week 2.

“Our coaching staff has already been hard at work preparing for our opponents, but it is always intriguing to find out when we’re playing the games,” Rivera said Thursday in a statement. “I’m excited to open our home schedule with a familiar face in Sean McDermott. He knows our team well, is an excellent coach and will have the Bills ready to play. It will certainly be a challenge for us, and I’m looking forward to it.”

The Panthers will travel to New England for a Week 4 tilt with the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots, their first trip to New England since 2009.

Carolina will appear in two primetime matchups – Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles for Thursday Night Football, and in Week 10 at home on Monday Night Football versus the Miami Dolphins. The team appeared in five primetime games last season, finishing with a 2-3 record.

The team could appear in other Sunday primetime games due to the NFL’s flex scheduling policy, according to the team’s official website.

Carolina also finalized its preseason schedule on Thursday, revealing that the team will host the Houston Texans on Aug. 9 in the team’s opener – a Wednesday night – one day before the start of the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

“We approached the NFL and the Houston Texans about moving our game to Wednesday in an effort to minimize the impact on city resources, and out of respect for our friends at Quail Hollow and the PGA,” executive director of stadium operations Scott Paul said. “We thank the NFL and the Texans for their cooperation.”

The Panthers will round out its preseason slate with back-to-back road games against Tennessee and Jacksonville before returning home to host Pittsburgh.
