Charlotte Hornets unveil new uniforms

Charlotte Hornets uniforms

— The Charlotte Hornets are back, and they've got new uniforms to prove it.

One month after officially changing their name back to the Hornets, the team unveiled its new duds Thursday during a news conference at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The team will have white home uniforms, purple road uniforms and a teal alternate that can be worn in either location. The home and road uniforms feature the word “Hornets” on the front, while the alternate jersey says “Charlotte.”

Manufactured by Adidas, the uniforms will include stripes on the left side only. The shorts feature the team’s one-color silhouette logo on the waistband and a cell pattern on the bottom left leg with either a secondary or alternate logo. In addition, the bottom right leg includes tone-on-tone lettering that says “Charlotte” on the home and road uniforms and “Hornets” on the alternate, meaning the words “Charlotte” and “Hornets” will both appear somewhere on each of the uniforms.

“It was important for us that our new uniforms reflect the heritage and history of the original Hornets both visually and philosophically, while also having aspects of the evolution to a new brand,” Hornets Sports & Entertainment President and COO Fred Whitfield said in a statement. “We wanted a look that was sharp and precise, echoing the attributes of our team. We are elated to unveil our new look to our fans and hope they are as excited by the uniforms as we are.”

The teal alternate uniform can be worn 16 to 20 times per season.

The uniforms were designed in collaboration with senior executives within the Hornets organization; Jordan Brand, a division of Nike; and the NBA’s Global Merchandising Group.

Fans can begin pre-ordering jerseys in August at the Hornets Fan Shop. Jerseys are expected to arrive in late September.

A new playing floor design will be released next week, and the team name will get its first game action during the 2014 Summer League in Las Vegas. Hugo the Hornet, the popular mascot for the team, returned June 5.

Pete Guelli, the team's new executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer, told The Associated Press last month that 90 percent of last season's ticket holders have renewed for the 2014-15 campaign.

I like the home one the best, and have to agree with 903 - that pinstripe uni is sharp.

Nailed it. I was kind of expecting something of that ilk, instead I got something like this...oh, well.

why bother going back to the hornets if you aren't going to bring back the pinstripes?

The home uniform is nice. The others? Nope. The numbers on the purple and teal unis need to be outlined in white to show up better from a distance.

Like em all. Hope the Hornets return to the success they had in the 90's.
