Coaching 101: Tampa 2
Sep 9, 2013
Former East Carolina and NFL coach Steve Logan breaks down what the Tampa 2 and Cover 2 are in the first installment of his Coaching 101 series.
The Tampa 2 is a defensive strategy named after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and first used by then head coach Tony Dungy. The Tampa 2 starts with a 4-3 defense, four linemen, three linebackers, two cornerbacks, and two safeties. The defense was derived from a Cover 2 defense, except the middle linebacker drops into a deep middle coverage. It is typically used on third down and 7 or 8 yards when the offense is looking to pass.
Check back every Monday for more X's and O's.

I always enjoy listening to Coach Logan and KT is right. It's nice to see something other than rating teams and coaches.Logan does a terrific job explaining the X's and O's of football, and he can break it down into simple terms - the sign of a good teacher.- Posted by jgunn
