Current Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is one of the best defensive minds in the game. In the 1980's he developed and perfected the zone blitz scheme, specifically the fire zone blitz which is the focus of this week's Coaching 101.

A fire zone blitz is a specific zone blitz in which the defense rushes 5 with a 3-3 coverage behind it — three deep defenders and three underneath defenders.

The zone coverage leaves all areas of the field covered in case the quarterback is still able to get a pass off with the blitz on.
