GAME NOTES: Sam Houston State and South Dakota State will tangle today in Macon, looking to notch wins in the second round of the CBE Classic.

Sam Houston State was dominated by Mercer in its last outing, losing 60-38. The Bearkats shot just 30.2 percent from the field in the loss, including a paltry 21.1 percent in the first half, as Mercer built a 23-13 halftime lead and cruised in the final 20 minutes to the win. Sam Houston State will meet Niagara in the tournament finale Wednesday.

South Dakota State is coming off a 79-71 win over Niagara Monday in the first round of the CBE Classic, as four Jackrabbits' players posted in double figures. South Dakota State was led by Nate Wolters, who scored 23 points. The Jackrabbits will take on Mercer Wednesday.

This is the first meeting between Sam Houston State and South Dakota State.

Sam Houston State had no one finish in double-figure scoring in the loss to Mercer. Demarcus Gatlin and Marcus James each scored nine points, while Konner Tucker added seven points and five rebounds in the loss. Sam Houston State shot just 13-of-43 from the floor, and went just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Bearkats committed 17 turnovers as well, and were outrebounded 43-25 by Mercer.

South Dakota State's Wolters was terrific in the win over Niagara, shooting 8- of-16 from the floor (6-of-9 FT) and added four rebounds to his line. Tony Fiegen added 14 points and four rebounds, and Griffan Callahan and Brayden Carlson finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively. South Dakota State hit 23-of-57 from the floor, and while the Jackrabbits connected on just 4-of-20 three-pointers, the defense compensated by forcing 19 Niagara turnovers, which led to 17 points.

Wolters is the centerpiece of a strong South Dakota State frontcourt that should give Sam Houston State fits in this matchup. Both teams were a little reliant on the three-pointer the last time out, but South Dakota State played much better offensively in its win. Sam Houston State had better warm up offensively, or it could be another long night in Macon.
