Hartford's Leibovitz resigns

West Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - University of Hartford men's basketball coach Dan Leibovitz resigned Tuesday.

In four seasons with the Hawks, Leibovitz compiled a 44-82 record and a 2007-08 conference championship.

Leibovitz spent a decade as John Chaney's top assistant and close confidant at Temple, while also recruiting some of Philadelphia's top high school basketball players. When Chaney retired on March 13, Leibovitz's name was mentioned as a possible choice to replace the legendary coach.

In 2005, the assistant coach took over the head duties during the final three regular season contests and the club's two Atlantic 10 Tournament games, as Chaney served a five-game suspension. He also served as head coach for the final game of 2006 against Akron in the National Invitational Tournament, as Chaney decided not to coach the game in order to be with this wife, who was undergoing a medical procedure.

The school will hold a nationwide search for the 10th coach in team history.
