GAME NOTES: The Saint Peter's Peacocks will close out the regular season with a two-game homestand beginning tonight against the Fairfield Stags in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Yanitelli Center.

The Peacocks are bringing a bit of momentum into the final week of the season, with wins in back-to-back contests. Saint Peter's is still far from the top of the MAAC in both overall (11-16) and league record (7-11). The regular season finale for the team is set for Sunday against Niagara.

This is also one of only two games left on the schedule for Fairfield as well. The Stags have been far worse than the Peacocks this season, with an overall record of 6-23. They have lost nine of their last 11 and are tied with Niagara for last place in the MAAC standings (3-15). A home game against Marist this Friday wraps up the campaign.

Desi Washington drained a 3-pointer as time expired to lift Saint Peter's to a thrilling 56-55 victory over Fairfield when these teams met on Jan. 8. The win ended a five-game win streak for the Stags in the all-time series, which they lead, 54-50.

Fairfield dropped a 90-78 decision to Canisius in its last contest. The Stags connected on only 42.1 percent of their shots from the floor, while allowing a 5 1.9 percent effort by the Golden Griffins. They also turned the ball over 15 times, leading to 23 points for the victors.

Giving opponents extra opportunities is not something Fairfield can afford to do. The Stags are last in the MAAC in scoring (63 ppg) and field goal percentage (.395). Marcus Gilbert (14 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and Maurice Barrow (13.7 ppg, 5 rpg) stand in as the best offensive options on the roster. Gilbert tied a season-high with 26 points against Canisius. He has scored in double figures in eight straight contests, but he had only 10 points when these teams last met. Barrow also got to double figures against Canisius, but just barely (10 points), as he sank only 3-of-13 attempts from the floor.

Saint Peter's was on the road in its latest bout, and returned home with a 61-51 victory over Monmouth. The Peacocks only shot 37.2 percent from the field, but they outscored the Hawks from beyond the arc (21-9), and at the free-throw line (22-10).

The Peacocks have also suffered from a lack of firepower at the offensive end this season, as they are better than only the Stags in the league in both scoring (63.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (.402). However, they have made up for it a bit, by limiting the opposition to 65.9 ppg on 41.5 percent shooting. Marvin Dominique (17 ppg, 8.9 rpg) anchors the team from the frontcourt, leading in scoring and rebounding. He had 12 points and nine rebounds against Monmouth, although he only made 3-of-10 shots from the floor. Washington (13.4 ppg) is the only other player on the team averaging in double figures, despite shooting at a 37 percent clip from the floor.

While Saint Peter's certainly doesn't score well enough to blow past Fairfield, its defensive acumen will allow it to keep the Stags at bay long enough to earn a win.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Saint Peter's 68, Fairfield 61
