GAME NOTES: Both the Virginia Tech Hokies and Boston College Eagles are trying to climb out of the conference basement as they clash in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Conte Forum.

Virginia Tech has lost six consecutive games, including one to Boston College already this season, all of which have been in ACC play. The Hokies are last in the conference standings with a 1-6 ACC record. They are coming off a 65-45 defeat at the hands of intrastate rival Virginia.

Boston College has lost three games in a row, with its last win coming against these very Hokies in Blacksburg. The Eagles are only a half-game ahead of the Hokies in the conference standings at 1-5. Their last game was a 68-60 loss to Georgia Tech at home.

With the win earlier this season over Virginia Tech, Boston College's all-time series lead extends to 16-8 over the Hokies. The Eagles have won the last two meetings with the Hokies.

Virginia jumped so far ahead of Virginia Tech in the team's last outing, that the Cavaliers were doubling up the Hokies, 34-17, at the half. It was an awful shooting day for Virginia Tech, as the Hokies connected on just 27.3 percent of their shots in the first half, and 33.3 percent from the floor for the entire game. Devin Wilson was the only Hokies player to net a double-digit point total, scoring 12 on 2-of-10 shooting. Eight of his 12 points came from the free-throw line.

Much of the season has been plagued with injuries to players for Virginia Tech, as only two on the roster have suited up for all 19 games. Jarell Eddie is one of those two players, and the team's leading scorer at 14.4 ppg with a 37.6 percent touch from the floor. At 5.6 rpg, Eddie is also the team's leading rebounder. Ben Emelogu (11.1 ppg) and Adam Smith (11 ppg) are second sand third in scoring for the Hokies. Wilson (10 ppg) is the team's leader in assists with 88 total on the year.

Georgia Tech opened the game against Boston College on a 16-3 run, connecting on the first seven shots. They extended their lead to 34-15 later in the half and took a 42-27 lead into the intermission. Olivier Hanlon led the Eagles with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor in the loss. Lonnie Jackson contributed 14 points as Boston College connected on 40.4 percent of its shots in the contest.

Hanlon has a firm grip on the Boston College scoring average lead at 18.9 ppg on 43.2 percent shooting from the floor. Hanlon is the go-to player for the Eagles, but is only one assist shy of the team's lead at 58 through 19 games. Joe Rahon leads the team at 59 total assists on the year. Forward Ryan Anderson is second on the team in scoring with 14.5 ppg, and first on the squad in rebounding at 7.2 rpg. The Eagles are scoring 69.6 ppg this season.

Boston College was able to travel to Virginia Tech and defeat the Hokies on their own court, and now get the home advantage in this ACC matchup. Virginia Tech is struggling to find a groove in its six-game losing streak, which could easily be seven after this one.
