NCAA Game Summary - Princeton at Yale

(Saturday, February 15th)

Final Score: Yale 66, Princeton 65 (OT)

New Haven, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - A jumper by Justin Sears in the waning moments of overtime pushed the Yale Bulldogs to a 66-65 win over the Princeton Tigers in an Ivy League showdown at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Sears finished the contest with 17 points, adding five rebounds and four blocked shots for the Bulldogs (13-9, 7-1 Ivy) as they kept pace with Harvard atop the league standings. Armani Cotton registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Javier Duren 10 points and five assists as the team posted a sixth straight victory.

T.J. Bray scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds, although he was also charged with seven turnovers as the Tigers (14-7, 2-5) had a two-game win streak snapped. Spencer Weisz and Will Barrett both chipped in 10 points in the setback.

Princeton opened the contest on a 7-0 run, but the team made a total of just eight field goals through the first 20 minutes of action. The Bulldogs also had trouble finding the basket as they converted eight field goals as well, leaving the hosts with a 30-19 deficit at the break.

Both teams improved from the floor in the second half and even though Yale led by as many as five points with just over a minute remaining in regulation, the meeting still went to overtime after Barrett knotted the score at 56-56 thanks to a layup and subsequent free throw with 29 seconds left.

In the bonus period Bray scored eight points for the visitors, but in the end it was Sears who played the hero for the Bulldogs.

The game featured eight ties and 19 lead changes, with the Bulldogs overcoming 16 turnovers and just 3-of-11 shooting behind the 3-point line in order to come out on top.
