GAME NOTES: The South Dakota State Jackrabbits try yet again to score their first win away from home this season, as they clash with the Minnesota Golden Gophers in non-conference play at Williams Arena tonight.

Sporting a home mark of 4-1, the Jackrabbits have come up empty in four true road dates as well as their one neutral-site clash with Loyola Marymount in San Diego early last month. The team has been out of action since last Wednesday when it destroyed visiting Dakota State in an 88-62 victory at home in Frost Arena. The win snapped a two-game slide for the program.

Unfortunately for SDSU, the team is heading to Minneapolis where the Gophers are a perfect 6-0 at the moment. In the midst of a seven-game homestand which began with a 71-61 triumph over Florida State last week as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Minnesota also tackled New Orleans quite convincingly over the weekend in an 89-65 final.

In terms of the all-time series between these two teams, the Golden Gophers own a commanding 16-0 advantage versus SDSU. Dating back to 1930, every single game in the series has been played in Minneapolis, the most recent of those coming last season as the Gophers claimed a commanding 88-64 victory.

Against Dakota State, the Jacks not only shot 56.4 percent from the field, but also 9-of-18 behind the 3-point line, making it that much easier to enjoy the lopsided victory. Except for Brayden Carlson who scored just seven points in 31 minutes of action, every starter for SDSU landed in double figures, beginning with Cody Larson and Jordan Dykstra with 17 points apiece, the former also clearing 12 rebounds. Anders Broman and Chad White pitched in with 11 points apiece as the team secured a rebounding advantage of 40-27.

Balanced scoring has been the name of the game for South Dakota State in the early going this season with four active players putting up double figures. Dykstra leads the way with 17.2 ppg, thanks to his 17-of-43 shooting behind the 3-point line, and at the same time he is the top rebounder with 8.5 rpg as well. Carlson (12.3 ppg), Larson (12.2 ppg) and White (10.5 ppg) help to push the group to 72.8 ppg.

Scoring the first points of the game against New Orleans, the Golden Gophers never looked back as they led by as many as 24 before settling for the 15- point victory at home over the Privateers. Andre Hollins led a list of five players in double figures with his 18 points, followed by Austin Hollins with 13 as the duo combined for eight assists and five steals. Maurice Walker and DeAndre Mathieu contributed 11 points apiece, the former clearing eight rebounds and the latter handing out a team-best five assists, while Oto Osenieks and Joey King accounted for 10 points each.

Andre and Austin Hollins have been shouldering the load for the Golden Gophers through the first 10 games, the former posting 16.6 ppg and 29 assists, while the latter contributes 13.2 ppg, clears 6.7 rpg and has accounted for both 24 dishes and 17 steals. Also having a hand in the unit's success has been Mathieu, the only other player averaging double digits in scoring with his 10.1 ppg. But just as important as his own points, Mathieu is also responsible for 52 assists, more than one-third of the unit's total, as they help to generate 77.4 ppg.

The home schedule really has not been that challenging for the Gophers to this point, but if the Jackrabbits think they can use their lopsided win over Dakota State as a springboard to something bigger and better at Williams Arena tonight, they've got another thing coming.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Minnesota 79, South Dakota State 65
