GAME NOTES: The first round of the Conference USA Tournament continues on Monday night with a matchup featuring the 13th-seeded Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners and the 12th-seeded East Carolina Pirates at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

UTSA had its share of trouble during the regular season, especially in conference play. The Roadrunners have dropped five straight games entering the postseason, and have lost 12 of their last 14 games overall. They finished the regular season with a 4-12 mark in C-USA action. UTSA is coming off a 61-51 loss to UTEP in the regular-season finale.

For a time, it looked as though East Carolina was in the same boat as UTSA. The Pirates went on a six-game losing streak in the middle of the season, but finished the conference slate with a 5-11 ledger -- one game ahead of UTSA. ECU won three of its last five games to end the regular season, but lost its most recent outing, 68-47, to Old Dominion.

The two new Conference USA rivals met for the first time during the regular season, with East Carolina winning at home, 81-71.

UTSA fell behind intrastate rival Texas-El Paso, 28-16, at the end of the first half of last Thursday's matchup. But the Roadrunners weren't giving up just yet, ripping off a 15-2 run in the second to make things interesting. Eventually the Miners were able to create some additional distance toward the end of the contest, registering the 10-point win. Devon Agusi led UTSA with 14 points in the game, adding five rebounds to his stat line. He was the only Roadrunners player to reach double figures, while Jordan Sims grabbed 11 rebounds and George Matthews pulled down 10 boards of his own.

Keon Lewis, who scored just four points in the loss to UTEP, leads the team with his 12.7 ppg. Agusi checks in just behind Lewis in scoring with 11.9 ppg, adding a team-high 70 assists to his resume'. Sims rounds out UTSA's double- digit scorers on the season with 10.4 ppg, and he has a team-best 37 steals to his credit. Phillip Jones grabs a club-best 6.1 rpg, adding 19 blocked shots. UTSA averages 68.6 ppg, but allows 76.7 ppg.

Old Dominion went ahead of East Carolina at the end of the first half, 28-21, and made sure the Pirates didn't have any gas left in the tank for a second- half comeback. The Monarchs rattled off 40 points in the frame and limited ECU to 26.9 percent shooting in the period, cruising to the easy win. Caleb White led the Pirates with 12 points, adding five rebounds before he fouled out of the contest. Paris Campbell chipped in 10 points for ECU in the defeat.

Akeem Richmond, who scored six points in the loss to ODU, tops the Pirates with 17.9 ppg, hitting 39.5 percent of his shots from the floor. White checks in second on the team in scoring with 12.8 ppg, connecting on 50.5 percent of his field goal tries, and Campbell adds 11.8 ppg for the Pirates. Prince Williams tops the squad with 112 assists, and Brandan Stith leads the rebounding effort with 6.5 rpg.

UTSA was abysmal away from its home court on the season, garnering a 1-12 road record. The Roadrunners also gave up a whopping 76.7 ppg to opponents on the season, which East Carolina will easily be able to take advantage of for the second time this season.
