GAME NOTES: The Manhattan Jaspers will try to keep pace atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings, as they entertain the Marist Red Foxes on Sunday afternoon.

Marist had been enjoying its longest stretch of success of the season before visiting Siena on Friday. The Red Foxes dropped a 67-58 decision to the Saints, ending a five-game win streak and pushing them down to 5-10 overall. That includes just a 1-5 mark on the road for Marist, which will host Rider next.

An 81-76 loss at Quinnipiac on Thursday ended an eight-game win streak for Manhattan, and was also the first setback in league play for the Jaspers. They are now 4-1 in MAAC play, which ties them with Quinnipiac, Canisius and Iona for first place in the congested conference standings. Manhattan hosts Siena in its next tilt.

Manhattan earned a season sweep of Marist last season, and has won five of the last six meetings overall. As a result, the Jaspers are ahead in the all-time series, 21-15.

Without starting center Adam Kemp, Marist found itself on the short end of the rebounding battle against Siena (35-31). Failing to secure an edge on the boards was detrimental for the Red Foxes, who had plenty of opportunities by making just 35.3 percent of their shots from the floor. A 26-12 deficit in points off turnovers also proved disastrous.

Kemp (7.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg) is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Although he is not relied upon much in the scoring department, he is the top player on the glass for a team currently sitting in the basement of the MAAC in rebounds (34.8 rpg). Marist is also among the worst three teams in the conference in scoring (62.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (.385). Chavaughn Lewis (16.3 ppg) is the top option on offense, but his efficiency could certainly use some work (.382 FG percentage). Khallid Hart (12.9 ppg) adds to the scoring effort, while Jay Bowie (10.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg) is the best frontcourt performer with Kemp sidelined.

Manhattan claimed a 50-16 scoring advantage over Quinnipiac in the paint, but sloppy play on defense canceled that effort completely. The Jaspers were called for 32 fouls and outscored 31-14 at the free-throw line. In fact, the Bobcats had more made free throws (31) than the Jaspers had attempts (28).

Michael Alvarado (11.8 ppg, 3.6 apg) had easily his best game of the season against Quinnipiac, scoring 23 points and handing out a season-high 10 assists. Alvarado has not been that potent on the season, posting just three double-digit efforts in the last seven games. George Beamon (20.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg) is the more likely candidate to erupt on offense, ranking third in the MAAC in scoring. However, he was held scoreless for the first time this season against Quinnipiac. Rhamel Brown (9.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.9 bpg) isn't an overly productive scorer, but he makes up for it on defense as he leads the conference in blocks.

Beamon should be able to rekindle his offensive success against Marist, and that will go a long way in helping the Jaspers get back in the win column.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Manhattan 78, Marist 64
