GAME NOTES: The Saint Peter's Peacocks will try to finish the season strong when they take on the Monmouth Hawks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the MAC.

After pulling out a thrilling 58-57 win over Marist on Thursday night, Saint Peter's has a chance to finish the regular season on a positive note. Including tonight's game, the Peacocks' final three opponents are all below them in the MAAC standings, giving the squad a shot at entering the postseason tournament with a 9-11 record, which could be good enough to catapult it out of the bottom four in the conference.

Against Marist on Thursday night, a Travis Wyche free throw with under 10 seconds remaining provided Saint Peter's with just enough to come away with the win. Wyche finished the meeting with seven points and five assists for the Peacocks as they snapped a two-game slide.

Marvin Dominique stepped up with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds, followed by Desi Washington with 18 points and seven boards for Saint Peter's, which has won three of five overall to begin to salvage what will likely end up as a sub-.500 season.

Dominique leads the Peacocks in scoring with 17.2 ppg, which is also sixth- best in the MAAC. Washington adds 13.3 ppg for Saint Peter's, which averages only 63.2 ppg as a team and allows 66.5 ppg.

Monmouth enters tonight's game off a 75-61 loss to Manhattan on Thursday night. Freshman guard Josh James led three Hawks in double figures with 15 points, but Monmouth still fell to 4-13 in the MAAC and 10-18 overall.

Joining James in double digits were juniors Deon Jones, who notched a near double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Andrew Nicholas, who added 11 points and four boards.

Monmouth has been struggling of late, losing eight in a row and 10 of its last 12.

Jones (15.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg) and Nicholas (14. ppg) are the leading scorers for the Hawks and the only players averaging in double figures on the season, as Monmouth nets just over 70 ppg.

This is the second meeting of the season between the Peacocks and Hawks. On Feb. 9, Dominique scored 20 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked four shots as Saint Peter's disposed of Monmouth, 61-50. Washington chipped in 17 points and five boards for Saint Peter's, which has won 20 of the 28 all-time meetings. Andrew Nicholas scored 16 points to pace Monmouth, which has dropped two straight and three of four to the Peacocks.

It's not that the Peacocks have been playing great of late, but rather the lack of inspired play from the Hawks which will be the deciding factor in this one. Monmouth hasn't been clicking and although its offense seems to be better than Saint Peter's, the Peacocks defense should be enough to win an ugly one.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Saint Peter's 68, Monmouth 65
