GAME NOTES: The two top teams in the Southern Conference get together on Saturday night, as the Davidson Wildcats host the Wofford Terriers at Belk Arena.

The Terriers have been on a tear of late, winning their last nine games, the most recent being a 70-50 dismantling of Furman at home on Thursday night. As a result, they sit in second place in the SoCon.

Also, winners of nine straight, the first-place Wildcats have a two-game lead on the Terriers. Davidson last played on Monday night and took down The Citadel in Charleston, 83-76.

These teams have been playing each other for more than a century, and Davidson leads the all-time series by a count of 75-24. Davidson is 52-10 against Wofford at home, including a 12-3 mark inside Belk Arena. The Wildcats have won the last six meetings, with a 78-53 win at Johnson Arena last month being the most recent.

Karl Cochran scored 23 points and dished out five assists as the Terriers cruised past Furman. Cochran connected on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor, and hit 5-of-7 from 3-point range, while Lee Skinner grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Terriers. Wofford came out hot in the first half, drilling 50 percent of its total shots, including 4-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc, to take a 36-17 lead into the half. Furman shot a dismal 23.1 percent from the floor, and hit just 1-of-10 from distance and never challenged in the second half.

Karl Cochran leads the Terriers in scoring with 15.2 ppg. Spencer Collins is next with 13.4 ppg, while Skinner adds 11.1 ppg and 8.7 rpg, which is good enough for fifth place in the SoCon. Wofford averages just 68.7 ppg this season, but during its recent winning streak is netting 75.3 ppg.

De'Mon Brooks knocked down 17-of-20 at the free-throw line en route to 21 points to lead the Wildcats over The Citadel. Tom Droney and Brian Sullivan each tallied 15 points and Tyler Kalinoski and Jack Gibbs added 13 points apiece in the win. The Bulldogs got within two points of the lead at the 12:33 mark following a pair of Moore free throws, but the Wildcats responded with a 24-9 run to separate themselves. Davidson, which never trailed in the game, finished 11-of-21 from beyond the arc, and 26-of-36 at the free-throw line.

No team in the SoCon has been able to keep up with Davidson offensively. The Wildcats lead the league in scoring (78.4 ppg) and field goal percentage (.475), ranking among the top-40 in the country in each category as well. If they do have a weakness, it is on the glass, as the Wildcats are near the bottom in the conference on the boards (31.9 rpg). De'Mon Brooks (18.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg) leads the way, ranking third in the league in both scoring and in field goal percentage (.572). Brooks gets plenty of support, with Sullivan (13.2 ppg), Droney (11.4 ppg) and Kalinoski (11.1 ppg) all lending a hand.

With big streaks and conference standings on the line, expect a heated battle between these two SoCon heavyweights. Davidson appears to be the stronger of the two contenders given its scoring depth, so expect the Wildcats to make it 10 in a row and put a stranglehold on the top spot in the league.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Davidson 75, Wofford 70
