GAME NOTES: Consolation round action of the NIT Season Tip-Off is on tap this evening at Elon, as the Canisius Golden Griffins take on the Georgia State Panthers.

Canisius will take on Metro State to close out tournament play on Tuesday, while Georgia State will battle host Elon.

The Golden Griffins are 2-2 on the young season and split games in earlier rounds of this event, losing to Rutgers (66-51), before topping Elon (86-85) last week.

The Panthers are also 2-2 on the year, and split their two games in the NIT thus far, routing McNesse State (96-70), before getting routed themselves by Alabama (75-58).

This marks the first-ever meeting between these two teams.

Canisius shot a sterling .577 from the floor and needed every basket, as the team edged out Elon in Piscataway last week to even its record at 2-2. Billy Baron had a strong game, leading the Golden Griffins with 21 points. Fellow guard Chris Perez added 17 points, while forward Chris Manhertz tacked on nine.

The Golden Griffins have struggled in the early going offensively. The team is averaging a decent 68.0 ppg, but doing so on a mere .408 shooting. The real problem is the team is allowing 75.8 ppg for a -7.7 scoring margin. Also problematic is the team's inability to control the boards, getting outrebounded by 9.5 caroms per contest. Baron is the primary option at the offensive end, averaging 22.0 ppg. He has really made teams pay the price for sending him to the free-throw line (25-of-27). Perez is a distant second in the scoring column at 11.0 ppg, with the scoring pool drying up fast after that.

Georgia State has had very few problems filling up the basket this year, averaging an impressive 82.8 ppg thus far, on a solid .465 shooting. The problem is that opponents have had similar success (77.2 ppg, .441 efficiency). Scoring depth is apparent with four of the five starters averaging double digits for the Panthers. R.J. Hunter leads the way with 18.0 ppg. Ryan Harrow is next in line with 15.8 ppg, followed by Devonta White and Manny Atkins at 12.5 an 11.0 ppg, respectively.

The Panthers are coming off their worst offensive performance of the young season, as the Crimson Tide stymied the GSU attack to just 58 points and 40 percent shooting. Rashaad Richardson led the team offensively off the bench with 16 points. Atkins was the only other Panther in double figures with 14 points.

Neither of these teams play much defense, so this could be a high-scoring affair. That will favor the Panthers, who simply have more weapons.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Georgia State 77, Canisius 73
