GAME NOTES: The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate kicks into high gear tonight, as the Saint Peter's Peacocks meet up with the Canisius Golden Griffins at the Koessler Center.

One of four MAAC games on tap for Friday night, the Peacocks are in the midst of a five-game road trip that began last Saturday with a narrow 66-65 setback versus Boston University. The defeat snapped a brief two-game win streak for a Saint Peter's group that has dates at Niagara, Seton Hall and Hartford all upcoming before playing in front of the hometown crowd again on Dec. 28 versus Cornell.

Meanwhile, the Golden Griffins are getting to play at home for the first time since opening the season with a 71-66 victory over South Dakota back on Nov. 11. Most recently, the team was involved in the 2013 NIT Season Tip-Off and fell to Metropolitan State by a score of 83-69 on Nov. 26 to end a modest two- game win streak.

Canisius leads the all-time series by a count of 38-31, thanks in part to a 77-65 overtime victory in the last meeting in February.

Saint Peter's led by six at the break against Boston University in a weak offensive display the last time out, but after holding the Terriers to a mere 21 points through the first 20 minutes of action, the Peacocks were touched for 45 points in the second half of the one-point setback. Marvin Dominique tallied 20 points and seven rebounds for the visitors, followed by Tyler Gaskins with 13 points off the bench.

A starter in all but one game for Saint Peters, Dominique is scoring a hefty 18.3 ppg, shooting 48.2 percent from the floor but only 25.9 percent behind the 3-point line. Desi Washington is the only other double-digit scorer for the group with his 11.7 ppg, but his production is based on a mere 35.1 percent accuracy from the field. As a unit, the Peacocks are putting up just 66.5 ppg.

The Griffs watched Metro State connect on 51.7 percent from the field during their meeting last week, not to mention 9-of-21 behind the 3-point line, which was more than enough to send Canisius to the loss column yet again. Dominique Raney managed to come up with a team-best 17 points as he converted 6-of-8 from the field, followed by Billy Baron and Chris Perez with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Far from a team effort, Canisius posted just three assists, against 14 turnovers.

Playing 39 minutes per game, Baron is responsible for 21.5 ppg as a 45.9 percent shooter beyond the arc. More than just the top scorer for the Griffs, Baron is also first with 17 assists, the latter being an area that needs considerable attention given that they are averaging less than nine dishes per contest. Perez checks in with 13.0 ppg and in his case, while connecting on a woeful 47.6 percent at the free-throw line, he has four times as many turnovers (20) as assists (five).

The Golden Griffins might be able to get by Saint Peter's this evening by playing mostly as individuals, but that won't continue to be the case moving forward.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Canisius 68. Saint Peter's 61
