The Flashes started strong, shooting 58.3 percent from the field in the opening half. Meanwhile, the Chippewas hit on just 32.1 percent of their shots and headed into halftime down, 32-25.

In the second half, however, the Chippewas improved, knocking down 42.3 percent from the floor. Kent State shot 50 percent, but got to the line for just 4-of-7. With the clock stopped with 34 seconds left, Simons sank two free throws to put Central Michigan up three, but K.K. Simmons responded for the opposition just six seconds later with a game-tying 3-pointer, sending it to overtime.

With 4:11 left in overtime, Simons drained another 3-pointer, which put CMU up two, a lead it would not give back.
