GAME NOTES: A remarkable turn of events on Friday night has the Penn Quakers enjoying back-to-back victories for just the second time this season as they get ready to take on the Yale Bulldogs in Ivy League action at the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven on Saturday night.

Penn, which had a very difficult season indeed with just the second campaign in program history to produce 20 defeats, was the beneficiary of a very favorable call in the meeting with Brown last night, a decision that led to the 66-64 win for the Quakers.

As for the Bulldogs, they had a part in confusing the issue at the top of the league standings by virtue of their 71-66 win over the Princeton Tigers last night. Yale, which moved the Tigers one-half game behind Harvard for first place in the standings, has now won two games in a row and is third in the standings with a 7-6 mark.

Penn, which will be closing out the regular season with its traditional finale versus Princeton on Tuesday night, leads the all-time series by a huge 146-71 margin, but the Bulldogs are the ones who captured a 68-59 victory in the first meeting of the season last month at The Palestra.

Miles Cartwright scored eight straight points for Penn down the stretch, including a pair of free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining, in order to give the Quakers a thrilling two-point win over the Brown Bears in Ivy League action at the Pizzitola Sports Center last night. Cartwright finished with a game-high 25 points, while Patrick Lucas-Perry responded with 15 points off the bench for the visitors as well.

Trailing by seven points in the second half, midway through the period in order to establish a seven-point lead at 60-53. Cartwright led Penn back to a 64-64 tie and then was awarded three free throws after he hoisted up a shot from 40 feet away when Brown attempted to foul him prior to getting a shot away. Cartwright knocked down the first two attempts and then missed the third intentionally in order to keep the Bears from getting off a lucky shot of their own.

Greg Kelley and Michael Grace both scored 13 points as the Yale Bulldogs defeated Princeton by five points at home last night. Also scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs were Javier Duren with 12 and Austin Morgan 11 points. Yale shot a blistering 70.0 percent from the field in the first half, not to mention an incredible 6-of-8 beyond the arc, en route to a 36-24 advantage at the break. In the second half the Bulldogs dropped off to 50.0 percent from the floor but managed to make good on 14-of-16 at the free-throw line in order to stay ahead and grab the win.

Morgan is currently the only player scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs with his 11.1 ppg, although he is shooting a mere 36.8 percent from the floor which is actually lower than his 37.0 percent effort beyond the arc. With an average of six triples per game, Yale is producing 66.7 ppg in 2012-13, which is only slightly better than the 66.4 ppg it is allowing over the course of 30 games.

Luck was on the side of the Quakers last time out, but chances are Penn will need more than that in order to keep up with Yale in this one.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Yale 70, Penn 62
