GAME NOTES: The Pacific Tigers go head-to-head with North Dakota on the final day of the Global Sports Challenge, as the two teams meet at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.

Pacific rebounded from its first loss of the season against event host Oregon on Friday by pulling out a 73-71 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday. The win was the fifth in six games this season for the Tigers, and the first on a neutral floor.

North Dakota was matched up with 14th-ranked and event host Oregon on Saturday, and was turned away in a 91-76 final. The setback was the second straight for North Dakota, which was handed a 70-43 beating from Cal Poly on Friday.

These two teams split a pair of matchups during the 1977-78 and 1978-79 campaigns, knotting the series at 1-1.

After Chris Eversley hit a 3-pointer with 44 seconds to play, the Mustangs had a 71-70 lead against Pacific. However, Tony Gill saved the Tigers with a layup and ensuing foul shot at the other end to claim the narrow victory. Kyle Odister got off a pair of 3-point attempts in the final seconds for Cal Poly, but they were off the mark.

Gill (13.2 ppg) was certainly the right man for the job in crunch time on Saturday. The Tigers' forward is leading the team in scoring behind 55.4 percent field goal efficiency. Gill finished with 14 points as the team's leader in scoring once again. Sama Taku (12.4 ppg, 3.6 apg) is another solid scorer that the Tigers rely on, although he is more revered for his ball- handling and distribution skills. Andrew Bock (11.3 ppg) and Ross Rivera (10.8 ppg) round out a quartet of double-digit scorers. In all, the Tigers are netting 75.2 points per game in hitting 44.2 percent of their field goal attempts.

Against Oregon, North Dakota struggled all night to keep up. As a team, UND shot just a 40.8 percent from the field, which was far below the 58.9 percent pace of the Ducks. North Dakota was also on the wrong end of a sizable rebounding differential (44-28).

Troy Huff and Aaron Anderson did everything they could to help pull off the upset of Oregon. Huff finished with 25 points, although he only hit on 8-of-25 shots from the field. Anderson was more efficient, scoring 22 points on 9- of-16 shooting. Huff (23.6 ppg, 8 rpg) has been a consistent 20-point scorer for North Dakota, with three games now of 20 points or more, including a pair of 30-point efforts. Anderson (15.4 ppg) is a capable scorer in his own right, although a less prolific one. Jaron Nash (12.6 ppg) is another double-digit scorer for North Dakota, and is coming off a 12-point showing against Oregon.

Even though Pacific does not possess a scorer as potent as Huff, the Tigers have been playing a more balanced brand of basketball. Expect Pacific to claim a victory on Sunday.
