NCAA Game Summary - Kansas at Kansas State

(Monday, February 10th)

Final Score: Kansas State 85, (7) Kansas 82 (OT)

Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster had 20 points to lead the Kansas State Wildcats to an 85-82 overtime upset of No. 7 Kansas.

Will Spradling scored 15 points with six rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats (17-7, 7-4 Big 12), who have won their past two -- both against ranked opponents.

"We knew if we played hard, the rest would take care of itself," Foster said.

Perry Ellis gave 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Andrew Wiggins added 16 points and five boards for the Jayhawks (18-6, 9-2), who had won their past two since a loss to Texas on Feb. 1. Naadir Tharpe scored 13 points with 10 assists in the loss.

Kansas has dominated this series, winning 48 of the past 52 meetings and holding a 187-92 lead overall.

"It's always been a rivalry to me," Kansas head coach Bill Self said. "I think sometimes fan don't understand how hard it is to win away from home."

Wiggins had tied the game with 6.9 seconds to play when he was able to tip in his own miss and Tarik Black briefly gave the Jayhawks a 71-69 lead with the first bucket of overtime.

Spradling followed with a 3-pointer, and, after two free throws from Ellis, Foster was fouled on a layup and made the free throw for a two-point advantage.

A D.J. Johnson layup with 1:49 to play gave Kansas State a 78-74 lead and Ellis countered with a free throw before Wesley Iwundu put in a bucket for an 80-75 lead.

After a Tarik Black slam got it back to four, Foster hit a pair of free throws with 21.9 to play and Spadling polished the game off with two more free throws after Wiggins missed a 3-pointer and Iwundu blocked a Black layup.

A Spradling 3-pointer gave Kansas State a 13-6 lead early, but that was the largest lead of the half for either team, as Kansas worked its way back and the game was tied at 29-29 after 20 minutes.

The Wildcats led by nine in the early stages of the second half, but the Jayhawks answered with an 8-2 run.

It was another nine-point lead for Kansas State with just under two minutes to play as Iwundu hit a pair of free throws, but Kansas closed the half with a 10-1 run to send it to overtime.

"If we lost it would have been a heartbreaker," Weber said.
